Danny Sullivan no longer the Google Search Liaison

Danny Sullivan is stepping away from his role as the Google Search Liaison to work on new things within the Google Search Team. Danny posted on X, “This account is no longer active. Please follow Search Central at for site owner information and see our Search blog for the latest updates.”

What Google said. “Danny is taking on a new role within Google, working on new projects on the Search team. We’ll continue to provide timely updates about Search and engage with users and site owners through various channels, including the Google Search Central accounts,” a Google spokesperson told Search Engine Land.

Some history. Danny Sullivan founded Search Engine Land, this site, and was the chief content officer. He retired from writing about search after 21 years in 2017. A few months later, he announced he was joining Google as the Search Liaison.

After months of inactivity on the SearchLiaison social media accounts, Danny announced he is moving away from that role.

Why we care. Danny Sullivan has always been a key figure in the search industry. As an independent journalist, he documented much of how search changed over the years. When he moved to Google, he was also very involved with the search community and industry.

It is unclear if this new role will change all of that or not. It does seem Danny Sullivan has taken a less visble and outwards facing role within Google over the past several months.
