Google AI Mode available in India without sign-in

Google has fully rolled out AI Mode in India, just two weeks after launching it in India within Search Labs. Google wrote, “We’re now starting to roll out the AI Mode experience in Google Search, with no Labs sign-up required.”

Some history. As a reminder, AI Mode was introduced in the US, within Search Labs back in March 2025. Then at Google I/O in May, Google announced AI Mode would roll out fully to US searchers without having to opt into it via Labs. It took three weeks, but AI Mode began its US rollout in mid-June. On June 24, 2025, Google launched AI Mode within Search Labs in India. Now, Google is removing the labs requirement and it is available for all searchers in India.

What Google said. Google wrote:

“We’re now starting to roll out the AI Mode experience in Google Search, with no Labs sign-up required. Over the coming days, you’ll see a new tab for AI Mode appear in Search and in the search bar in the Google app, available in English. All the features from the Labs launch will be available: so you can type, use your voice, or even snap a photo with Lens to get a rich, comprehensive response with helpful links, and dig deeper with follow-up questions.”

What is AI Mode. AI Mode is a new tab within Google Search that brings you into a more AI-like interface. Google said AI Mode “is particularly helpful for queries where further exploration, reasoning, or comparisons are needed.” AI Mode lets you explore a topic and get comprehensive AI-based answers without you needing to do those comparisons and analyses yourself. We saw rumors of this news and it is finally officially here, for some of you.

AI Mode uses a “query fan-out” technique that issues multiple related searches concurrently across subtopics and multiple data sources and then brings those results together to provide a response. Google said using this query fan-out method provides searchers with a “more breadth and depth of information than a traditional search on Google.”

AI Mode supports searching with text, voice, and images through its multimodal capabilities. Plus, AI Mode offers the conversational follow-up questions like you’ve seen in AI Overviews and Gemini.

Tracking AI Mode. You won’t be able to easily track AI Mode queries and data in Search Console, despite that data being logged in Search Console. Google lumps it all together with normal search, despite it being a separate tab within Google.com.

Now that AI Mode is outside of Search Labs in India, you will see this data in Search Console, but it will just make it all super messy.

Why we care. AI Mode is touted by Google as the future of Google Search. Google will continue to roll out AI Mode to more and more regions and eventually it will be available to all users, worldwide, outside of Search Labs. This is the second full expansion of AI Mode, first being U.S. and now being India.

You should be playing with AI Mode to see how your sites and clients are impacted.
