Tax settings no longer needed in U.S. Google product feeds

Tax settings no longer needed in U.S. Google product feeds

Google Merchant Center now (as of July 1st) automatically calculates tax for U.S. merchants — no manual setup required.

Why we care. The change eliminates a frequent source of product disapprovals and simplifies the feed setup process, especially for retailers using dynamic shipping rates.

How it works. Google will now apply the correct sales tax based on the shopper’s location at the time of the search, removing the need for merchants to configure tax settings in their feeds.

  • Previously, incorrect or missing tax data often led to feed errors and disapprovals.
  • Merchants can still review tax data, but the setup is now hands-free.

Between the lines. This move reflects Google’s ongoing effort to reduce friction in e-commerce onboarding and support more automated retail solutions.

What’s next. Merchants should still ensure other feed settings — like pricing, shipping, and availability — remain accurate to avoid disapprovals.
